The story of Mistress and Bonzo
Bonzo and Mistress were very happy
together. They would go for long walks together in the wood. Mistress would
throw sticks for Bonzo. He'd run and fetch them - Mistress would run and kick
up leaves, and Bonzo would chase after them - they were both very happy together.
At home it was just the same - Bonzo would help Mistress with the tasks around
the house. They would do everything together.
Mistress and Bonzo would go for walks into town - Bonzo would lead and pull
Mistress along to where she wanted to go. Always stopping at Mistress's shops
for her to look and buy. Bonzo would happilly walk along just pleased that he
was making Mistress happy. When they got home after these long walks and had
the house to themselves, Mistress and Bonzo used to play games. Bonzo used to
know when they were going to play games and would wag his tail excitedly waiting
for his tickle on the tummy. In return, Bonzo would lavish wet sloppery kisses
and doggie licks onto Mistress. How they both loved playing games together.
Gradually as time went on, Mistress would ask Bonzo if he'd like to go for walkies
on his own - and if he was passing certain shops, would he mind just popping
in for this and that. Bonzo didn't mind that at all, as he knew that by doing
this he'd be making Mistress's life easier for her. So Bonzo used do all sorts
of errands for Mistress - bringing the goods home and waiting for his choccie
drops and pats on the head - and, if he was very lucky, perhaps even a tickle
on the tummy....
Then ever so gradually, whilst Bonzo was still going for walkies on his own
and doing all sorts of things for Mistress, he noticed that the choccie drops
and pats on the head were getting less. Was this something that Bonzo had done
he began to wonder to himself. He thought - no, Bonzo couldn't think of anything
he'd done, as Bonzo was still doing everything that Mistress was asking of him.
Anyway, apart from the odd Bark to Mistress now and then, Bonzo said no more
about it.
Soon when not only had the choccie drops stopped, and the pats on the head,
and even the tickles on the tummy, Bonzo was feeling a bit puzzled and also
by now a bit lonely. Bonzo was still doing everything that Mistress was asking
of him - going walkies for her, taking her here and there, doing this and that
for her - but whenever Bonzo wanted to play, Mistress would just look at him
and turn away. Bonzo started to go away with his tail between his legs as if
he'd done something wrong, even when he was sure he hadn't.
Then one day something happened which made Bonzo think that Mistress wanted
another dog (even though Bonzo knew she really didn't). When Bonzo asked Mistress
if she was going to get another dog, Mistress laughted at Bonzo and said "don't
be silly Bonzo, I don't have time for another dog - in fact I don't have time
for the one I've got". This made Bonzo think - that was it - Mistress no
longer had time for Bonzo. Bonzo felt very sad about this, as whatever Bonzo
did for Mistress he always made time for her. Bonzo always made sure that whatever
shopping Mistress wanted she got - even if it was raining outside. Bonzo always
made sure that Mistress was taken to all the places she wanted to go. Bonzo
always made time for whatever Mistress asked of Bonzo. (Even if Mistress didn't
like the way that Bonzo did things for her).
One day when Bonzo started to tell Mistress that he thought she no longer had
time for him - Mistress didn't like what she heard and without wanting to hear
any more, threw Bonzo out - she even gave him back the presents that Bonzo had
bought for her without opening them. Bonzo sadly took them back and made his
way to his kennel broken hearted.
Sadly, this was the end of Bonzo and Mistress.
